SO WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED IN 2 MILLENIA?

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, the public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance." Cicero - 55 B.C.

This expresses what I've always thought about politics and government. It stinks!! Yes-----I know we supposedly live in the best country in the world (cause they always tell us we do) but hopefully we can and will LEARN...... I think the education system is horrible and should be revised radically, and also the government needs to be rethunk (yes I know that's not a word) and redone totally.

Enough of that......Happy New Years Everyone.....more book reports to come.....

Oh----we went to see some movies this past week. Here's my reviews:

7 Pounds: thought it really good and thought-provoking but........a real tear-jerker. Gives new meaning to "atonement" and "sacrifice."Take a whole box of kleenex.
The Tale of Desperaux: I liked the book better----they had to "pad the movie" to make it stretch, but the kiddo's loved it.
BEDTIME STORIES: My favorite one so far. Adam Sandler was really funny, and we (all ages) loved it and laughed a lot.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: This is a curious little tale (by F. Scott Fitzgerald) and really doesn't have a "meaning" as such. Just a curous slice-of-life tale..... (wouldn't see it again.)

I loved the quote. Little has changed!

Thanks for the reviews of the movies, too. Needless to say, the Tales of Despereaux isn't on our list right now. But 7 pounds looks intriguing. We may sneak out and see that one soon.

Enjoyed your post!

So glad you are doing the movie reviews ... that will help me! I never quite know what to pick and usually ask around to see if anyone has seen the movie I'm thinking of ... I usually wait until they come out on DVD and Netflix them!!
Happy New Year wishes to you. I'd love for us "girls" to get together and do coffee one evening. Maybe we need a winter card swap??? Might just be fun to get together no pressure to be creative....
